ANALYSIS OF RISK-BASED CAPITAL MODELS AND THEIR APPLICABILITY TO THE INSURANCE MARKET OF UZBEKISTAN

This article explores the applicability of the Risk-Based Capital (RBC) framework to the insurance market of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Drawing upon international best practices, especially the APRA model from Australia, the study empirically assesses the capital structure comprised of premium, claims liability, and asset risks. The analysis revealed the dominant role of insurance-related risks in capital requirements and emphasized the need to transition from rigid normative regulation to a more risk-sensitive and adaptive supervisory approach. The paper provides policy recommendations for a phased implementation of RBC, including the development of a localized model, creation of a national actuarial database, and modernization of regulatory frameworks.

ENHANCING THE CAPITAL VALUE OF JOINT-STOCK COMPANIES THROUGH GOOD CORPORATE GOVERNANCE ELEMENTS

This article examines the impact of the systematic application of good corporate governance tools on the capitalization of joint-stock companies. Based on empirical data from leading public companies in Uzbekistan, an integrated model is proposed that includes board independence, audit committees, dividend policy, gender diversity, and stakeholder engagement. The results of the regression analysis show that the combined use of these corporate governance mechanisms significantly increases the value of Tobin’s Q, confirming the theoretical propositions of agency theory, resource-based approach, and stakeholder theory.

ANALYZING THE EFFICIENCY OF COMMERCIAL BANKS IN UZBEKISTAN THROUGH THE ROE INDICATOR

This article focuses on analyzing the return on equity (ROE) indicator as a key measure of the efficiency of commercial banks in Uzbekistan. The study examines differences in ROE across four types of bank ownership structures for the period 1999-2023. The findings indicate that banks with indirect state ownership had the highest average ROE, whereas those with direct state ownership showed the lowest capital profitability. Private banks exhibited high volatility, suggesting a higher risk profile in their operations. Meanwhile, foreign banks demonstrated a stable level of capital efficiency, with an improving trend in recent years. This research provides insights into policies and strategies aimed at enhancing the efficiency of commercial banks in Uzbekistan.

FORMATION OF AN EFFICIENT SECURITIES PORTFOLIO IN THE CAPITAL MARKET OF UZBEKISTAN AND EVALUATION OF ITS PERFORMANCE

This article examines the issues of forming an efficient securities portfolio in the capital market of Uzbekistan based on Markowitz’s mean-variance optimization model. The study uses 748 daily observations covering the period from July 23, 2022 to August 14, 2025 and forms equally weighted, minimum variance, and tangent portfolios based on the shares of six joint-stock companies actively traded on the Republican Stock Exchange “Tashkent” - three banks (Hamkorbank, Ipoteka-bank, and Ipak Yuli) and three non-bank companies (Uzbekistan Metallurgical Combine, Uztelecom, UZRTXB, and CHBSK). Portfolio performance is evaluated using the Sharpe ratio, Treynor ratio, Jensen’s alpha, and M² measure, and a comparison of banking and non-banking sector indices is carried out based on 1,000 potential portfolios using Monte Carlo simulation. The results of the study show that the tangent portfolio composed of bank shares demonstrates the highest performance (E(P) = 40.80%, σp = 4.68%, Sharpe ratio = 6.83).

MODELS FOR FORMING AN OPTIMAL INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO

This article analyzes models for forming an optimal investment portfolio, specifically Markowitz's optimal portfolio theory and the CAPM (Capital Asset Pricing Model). In the analysis section, a portfolio was constructed and examined based on data from 15 joint-stock companies operating in Uzbekistan, using stock price data from the last five years. Additionally, insights from various economists such as William Sharpe, Kan, and Zhou are presented. The beta coefficient between the UCI market index and the expected return of the portfolio was calculated, and the expected return of the portfolio, as well as the efficient frontier, was determined using CAPM. The article concludes with general findings and recommendations.

The article provides a brief description of the state of the economy of Uzbekistan and the relevance of its further development associated with the creation and use of innovative products. The highest concentration of startup initiatives is shown in such industries as IT, FinTech, E-commerce, EdTech, AgriTech, MedTech. Most startups and resources are concentrated in the city of Tashkent and large cities  like Samarkand, Bukhara and Fergana. The factors hindering the formation of a full-fledged startup ecosystem in the country and its regions are shown. Particular attention is paid to the problem of startup financing. Weak investment support at the initial stage of startup development, the low level of venture infrastructure and the legal framework for venture capital are emphasized. The evolution of the startup ecosystem in Uzbekistan is presented, starting with support for entrepreneurship and ending with the creation of a state system of venture funds. The development of the startup ecosystem in Uzbekistan is associated with the need to improve the legal framework, create a favorable business infrastructure, and introduce new mechanisms for financial and legal support. Proposals for the further development of innovation and the startup ecosystem in Uzbekistan have been systematized.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF COMMERCIAL BANK LOANS IN THE COUNTRY'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

This article is devoted to the analysis of the role of commercial banks of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the development of the national economy, in particular, in financing investment projects, increasing the level of employment, and implementing innovative technologies. It highlights the priority areas for the development of the banking system of such strategic documents as the "New Uzbekistan - 2030" program and the Development Strategy for 2022-2026. Also, an in-depth analysis of the main indicators of the banking system of Uzbekistan (assets, loans, capital, and deposits) was conducted. In particular, the differences between state-owned banks and other banks, their market share, and their impact on economic stability are shown based on statistical data. The analysis revealed that state-owned banks have a dominant position in the market, but other banks can compete almost equally in attracting deposits. POST-MERGER FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF ISLAMIC BANKS. INVESTIGATING THE IMPACT OF PROFITABILITY INDICATORS ON STOCK PARICE MOVEMENT

This study explores the impact of financial metrics, specifically Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE), on stock values in Islamic banking in Pakistan. Islamic banking in Pakistan lacks empirical research on how financial indicators like ROA and ROE affect stock values, creating a gap in understanding crucial performance metrics for investors. The study adopts a quantitative method, analyzing secondary statistics from the Pakistan Stock Exchange and Meezan Bank websites for the period 2016–2022. Linear regression in EViews is applied to assesses the relationship between ROA, ROE, and stock prices of the Bank. Results of the study indicates that the stock prices are positively influenced by returns and equity, however, impact of return on asset is statistically significant at 10 percent confidence interval.  The study is limited to data from PSB and IMBS, restricting its generalizability to other banks or markets. Study suggests investors should prioritize ROA and ROE metrics when evaluating stocks in Islamic banking, as they are essential for understanding performance and making informed decisions.
